At 114 meter, it is actually taller than the famous Shwedagon. It contains hair relic of Buddha and the sacred teeth. The pagoda endured 3 major earthquakes and in 1954, it received a diamond-studded hti after the rebuilt.
It is considered the most revered and the country’s most beautiful reclining Buddha. Though, it is not the largest reclining Buddha image in Myanmar, it offers a great deal of history. The statue is believed to depict Buddha on the eve of his reaching nirvana.
It is Bago’s main temple. It was rebuilt in 1597 over the original stupa. The original was said to have been constructed centuries earlier and contained hair relics of Buddha.
It is considered prominent and a much visited pagoda in the area. It has a shrine that houses a collection of paintings of Taungoo’s kings and a silver/bronze Buddha statue. There are two beautiful Chinese images of goddesses facing the shrine.
